TORONTO DENTIST DISCUSSES TRADITIONAL ORTHODONTIC PROCEDURES VERSUS COSMETIC TREATMENTS THAT DELIVER INSTANT RESULTS

Many patients in the Toronto area have a smile that is just a little out of alignment. It could be that their teeth were always positioned a little bit incorrectly, or perhaps they’ve shifted as the patient got older or from not wearing a retainer after traditional orthodontic treatment. In many cases, unless the misalignment is severe, patients decide to just live with it instead of undergoing treatment.

Traditional orthodontic treatment often takes several years and involves metal brackets, sharp wires, and tiny rubber bands that can snap and hurt the inside of the mouth. Even when the misalignment is minor or there is only a single tooth out of place, the process is often the same. Most adults would prefer to have an imperfect smile forever than live with braces for several years.

However, Dr. Jordan Soll of Central Dental Group urges his patients to consider dental veneers to correct a misaligned smile. Dental veneers are very thin strips of material, often porcelain, that are bonded to the front of the tooth. They can be used to correct a number of small imperfections including discoloration, chips or cracks, misshapen teeth, or teeth that are misaligned.

The veneer procedure includes only two visits and can be performed in our office. During the first visit, the dentist will remove a very small amount of enamel from the teeth that will be receiving the veneers. This ensures that the veneers will fit correctly and provide a natural smile. Next impressions will be taken so that the dental laboratory can create the veneers to the exact specifications of the dentist. The dentist can specify the exact shade of the veneers so they blend seamlessly into the rest of the smile. Once the veneers are created, the patient will return to the dentist and have the veneers bonded into place. Once the veneers are secure the patient can resume normal eating and drinking habits.
